here is the thing about the identities of others, folks

peopletips:

it is their identity

not yours

if you don’t understand it

guess what

you don’t have to because it isn’t yours

but you have an obligation to respect it

because it is who they are

everyone has the right to an identity that makes them comfortable

and understanding is not a prerequisite for respect

so you can go on being confused as to how or why someone would identify a certain way

but please, don’t call them pathological, and understand that their identity is still valid and deserving of respect

So Upstate Pride is today

in my city. And I just can’t decide whether or not to go. The last few prides I have been to, I’ve had this overwhelming “this doesn’t feel like my community” or getting I’ve been misgendered worse than in typical binary spaces feel to them. Eurgh. What do?
